GIF to MP4

Convert an animated GIF to a smaller, cleaner MP4 video.

How to convert a GIF to MP4

  1. Drag and drop a GIF (up to 50 MB) into the upload box.
  2. (Optional) Tweak the quality slider. Lower CRF = better quality but larger file.
  3. Click Convert to MP4. The first conversion downloads the ffmpeg.wasm runtime (~30 MB) — subsequent conversions reuse the cached copy.
  4. Preview the MP4 and download.

Why convert GIF to MP4?

GIFs are an old, inefficient format. The same animation as an H.264 MP4 is typically 80–95% smaller with no perceptible quality difference. That's the single biggest win you can get from this site for any animation longer than a couple of seconds.

MP4 also supports proper alpha/transparency control, smooth playback at high frame rates, audio (if you ever need to add it), and is supported by every social network that lets you upload video.

Common use cases

  • Twitter/X uploads: The site converts GIFs to MP4 anyway — give it a clean source.
  • WhatsApp shares: MP4 plays inline; GIFs sometimes don't.
  • Web pages: Use a tiny MP4 for a hero animation instead of a multi-megabyte GIF.
  • iMessage: Better fidelity and smaller file size than the GIF original.

FAQ

Why does the first conversion take longer? ffmpeg.wasm (~30 MB) is downloaded the first time. Browsers cache it after that.

Will the audio be preserved? GIFs don't have audio. The output MP4 is silent.

Does it work on phones? Yes, but ffmpeg.wasm uses a lot of memory — keep your GIFs under 20 MB on mobile.
