GIF Reverser

Reverse the frame order of an animated GIF so it plays backwards.

How to reverse a GIF

  1. Drop your GIF (max 50 MB) onto the upload area.
  2. Click Reverse GIF. The frames are decoded, reversed, and re-encoded with their original delays.
  3. Preview the reversed result and download.

Tips

Looping reversals (forward then back) are easy to make: reverse your clip with this tool, then concatenate it back to the original in any GIF editor (or download the reversed half and paste it after the original in a video editor).

Watch the timing. Reversal preserves per-frame delays, so if your original GIF lingered on the first frame the reversed version will linger on the last. That's usually what you want, but worth noting.

Common use cases

  • Reaction loops: A character walking off-screen becomes a character walking back.
  • Boomerang-style effects: Pair the reversal with the original to make a ping-pong loop.
  • Comedy timing: Reversed actions are inherently funny (try food being un-eaten).
  • Stock footage: Save money by deriving the "reverse" shot from the original.

FAQ

Will the file size change? Slightly — reversed frames may compress differently. Usually within a few percent of the original.

Does it work on transparent GIFs? Transparency is preserved.

Why does the first frame look the same? If your GIF is a clean loop, the reversed version starts and ends on the same frame as the original.
